Weekly Famitsu for September 13 has a special feature on Ryu ga Gotoku Online, including an interview with chief producer Yokoyama and director Horii. I’m working on the interview, and should have it up by the end of the week. But in the meantime, here’s some more snippets of information.

No source link, but if you want, you can buy an e-copy of the magazine here: Bookwalker

The story

RGGO1

Common introduction with the forthcoming console game

At the beginning of this story, Kasuga Ichiban goes to prison for the crimes of his patriarch Arakawa. But when his time is done, and he returns to Kamurocho, he finds many trials awaiting him … The protagonist’s backstory and the setting are the same in the console game version, Shin: Ryu ga Gotoku (working title), which is currently in development. It seems to be the case that the stories branch off along the way.
What will be Ichiban’s fate, when he finds himself held at gunpoint by the man he trusted!?

traitors     Akiyama

There’s also a bit more information about Arakawa and Sawashiro, which tells us that in 2017, they betrayed Tojo Kai and switched sides to Omi Rengo. And Arakawa is now wakagashira (captain) of Omi Rengo. It also seems that Akiyama will ally with Ichiban in this game. He’s shown telling Ichiban he thinks he’ll be a key person in taking back Kamurocho. Yay for more Akiyama!

A new character

RGGO2

Seto Mayumi (voice actor – Atsumi Tanezaki)

She’s described as “kanban musume of a snack”. A kanban musume, literally “signboard girl”, is a pretty girl who attracts customers to a shop. Kind of a mascot.

She lost both parents at a very young age, but as the mascot of a rundown snack in a corner of Kamurocho, grew up being doted on by its customers. In 2017, her only living relative, her grandmother, was murdered. Seeking revenge on the criminal, she makes her move.

Cabaret clubs

RGGO3

Sometimes you need to hang out in a cabaret club to strengthen yourself …!?

Of course the Ryu ga Gotoku series’ popular cabaret club games appear in this game too. Make frequent visits to the club, get the girls to like you, and you’ll be able to take them on “afters” and dates outside the club. Also, this club has an “alliance battle” multiplay component too. Up to 20 people can participate in each alliance, and if the members of your group are the winners, you get prizes, such as things that can help you level up. In other words, like in Ryu ga Gotoku before, hanging out in cabaret clubs becomes the key to improving yourself. Go ahead and play all you want, you’ve got nothing to lose.

– Different types of cabaret girls line up! – The cabaret girls have a different feel from the ones in the home console games. This is only one of the challenges in this game.

– If you can’t think of anything to say, buy food or drink! – Buying food or drink in the club makes it easier to get the girl to like you. If you don’t know the best answer, just order!

The battle system

RGGO4

Ryu ga Gotoku-like exhilarating battle and flashy Heat actions!

In this game you fight using a deck of selected character cards from the ones you’ve obtained. The battle is semi-automatic, but there are special attacks using the touch screen, when it’s possible to inflict greater than usual damage. Also, during the battle, just like in Ryu ga Gotoku, there’ll be items on the street like signboards etc. that you can use to pull off successful attacks. And your enemies’ faces get all beat up too. It looks like it’ll be good for releasing your daily stress. Also, depending on the characters in your deck, you can unleash some really flashy Heat actions!

– Fire a shotgun in Kamurocho to attack a yakuza enemy! Being so over-the-top makes this part totally Ryu-like.

– If you satisfy conditions, you can unleash killer Heat actions depending on the character’s personality. This is a big deal!
